Dr. Cherian, who joined Healthpoint in 2023, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India.
Prior to joining Healthpoint, Dr. Cherian was a Consultant Physician at the American Hospital Dubai. She also practiced at DocCare New York, a multi-specialty medical practice with multiple locations in New York. Here, she played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Out-Patient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Practice. Her responsibilities included providing diagnoses, monitoring, education, intervention and prescription of medications. Dr. Cherian was also the Medical Director at Castle Hill Medical of New York, where her appointment marked a historic moment as the first female physician ever hired in the institution’s decades-long history. She also contributed her medical talents as a Staff Physiatrist at Island Musculoskeletal Care MD PC.
Dr. Cherian’s specialties encompass a wide range of services in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She specializes in the diagnosis and non-operative treatment of nerve, muscle, and bone injuries, utilizing cutting-edge techniques such as ultrasound-guided injections and electrodiagnostic tests (EMGs & nerve conduction studies). Her expertise extends to treating patients with conditions like low back pain, neck pain, radiating back and neck pain, joint pains (such as knee, shoulder, elbow and wrist), and performing diagnostics and injections for nerve entrapments, tenosynovitis and fasciitis. In inpatient care, Dr. Cherian manages patients with stroke, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and spinal cord injuries, showcasing her dedication to the comprehensive field of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Cherian is American Board Certified and Re-Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her professional journey has been recognized by her fellowship in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She also received the Nassau County, NY Comptroller “Women Breaking Ground” Award in 2017, in recognition of her outstanding contributions and achievements in her field.
