Dr. El-Sawy has more than 37 years of experience in Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
Dr. El-Sawy possesses extensive expertise in perioperative anesthesia management across a wide range of surgical specialties, with a strong focus on patient safety, operational efficiency, and advanced anesthetic care. He is highly experienced in complex and high-risk cases, including pediatric, neonatal, cardiac, and critically ill patients, as well as advanced airway and regional anesthesia techniques.
He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Alexandria University, Egypt. He completed his House Officer training and Residency in Anesthesia at Alexandria University Hospitals and the National Heart Institute, Egypt, where he developed advanced clinical expertise in cardiovascular and critical care anesthesia. He later obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Anesthesia from Cairo University, Egypt, followed by a Doctorate (PhD) in Anesthesia through a joint supervision program between Cairo University, Egypt, and the University of Alabama, USA.
Throughout his career, Dr. El-Sawy has held leadership roles focused on improving clinical standards and healthcare systems. He played a key role in strengthening COVID-19 ICU response services, including 24/7 difficult airway and vascular access teams, and supported field hospital deployment during the pandemic.
He has also been instrumental in developing pain management services, establishing structured acute and chronic pain pathways, and equipping dedicated pain clinics with ultrasound and fluoroscopy for interventional procedures. In addition, he has been actively involved in residency training and multidisciplinary medical education, mentoring physicians across multiple specialties, and supporting the development of pediatric hospital frameworks to enhance child-friendly care environments.
Prior to joining, Dr. El-Sawy served as Consultant Physician and Former Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he held a long-standing leadership role since 1997.
Dr. El-Sawy’s scope of practice at Healthpoint includes preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative anesthesia care, general and regional anesthesia, advanced airway management, perioperative pain management, critical care monitoring, vascular access procedures, arterial and venous sampling, and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks.
Dr. El-Sawy specializes in complex anesthetic care across neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations, including extremely low birth weight infants and high-risk congenital cases. His expertise includes anesthesia for cardiac patients undergoing non cardiac surgery , advanced pediatric airway management, regional anesthesia techniques, monitored anesthesia care, neuroanesthesia, bariatric and vascular anesthesia, and anesthesia in remote procedural settings such as cath labs and MRI suites. He is widely experienced in managing critically ill patients and multidisciplinary perioperative coordination.
