Dr. Al-Refai has more than 14 years of experience in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology.
Dr. Al-Refai obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2010. She then underwent a specialty training program in Internal Medicine at Royal Medical Services Hospitals, King Hussain Medical City, Jordan, from 2011 to 2015, and successfully obtained a Certificate of Specialization in Internal Medicine from the Jordan Medical Council in 2015.
Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Al-Refai then pursued fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Royal Medical Services Hospitals, King Hussein Medical City, Jordan, between 2016 to 2019, and was successfully granted the Certificate of Specialization in Gastroenterology and Hepatology by Jordan Medical Council in 2019.
Dr. Al-Refai has been a member of the Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society (EGHS) since 2020.
Prior to joining Healthpoint, Dr. Al-Refai was an Associate Staff Physician/Specialist Gastroenterologist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Al-Refai’s scope of practice comprises various aspects of gastroenterology, including diagnostic, surveillance, and therapeutic procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy, encompassing polypectomy, esophageal varices banding and management of diverse gastrointestinal (GI) bleedings. Additionally, she excels in FibroScan examinations for liver fibrosis and steatosis, with successful management of conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and rare gut disorders.
Her expertise extends to general gastroenterology, functional GI disorders, investigations of GI-related causes of iron deficiency anemia, management of upper and lower GI bleeding, diverse presentations of IBS (diarrhea, constipation, mixed), celiac disease diagnosis and follow-up, dysmotility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) post bariatric surgery follow-up and workup for liver-related disorders. She also supervises the use of weight loss medication.
Specializing in gastroenterology, Dr. Al-Refai offers expertise in a diverse range of areas. She excels in the diagnosis and follow-up of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and pancreatic disorders. Additionally, her proficiency extends to hepatology, encompassing viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis, along with conducting pre-liver transplant workups.
Dr. Al-Refai also provides comprehensive nutrition support, including endoscopic feeding tube insertion and troubleshooting.
