Dr. Mustafa has more than 17 years of specialist experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Mustafa obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Baghdad University in 1995 and qualified top of his class. He attained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) (with Commendation) in 2003 from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK. He then completed his Specialty Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Wales Deanery (currently Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW)) and was awarded the UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery by the General Medical Council in February 2011. He pursued further specialization through fellowships and scholarships, including an AO Fellowship in Maxillofacial surgery with a focus on Craniomaxillofacial Surgical Navigation at the Medical Hospital Hannover University, Germany, and the European Association of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons Travel Scholarship at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Centre, Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, Baltimore, USA. In 2011, he completed the UK Interface Training Group Reconstructive and Cosmetic Facial Surgery Fellowship from Guy’s and Royal Surrey County Hospitals, UK.
Dr. Mustafa is a Fellow in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS RCS), a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS England), and a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS OMFS) (England).
Dr. Mustafa served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer with Cardiff University and held positions including Training Programme Director in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Chair of the Specialty Training Committee for Wales. He also chaired the Norman Rowe International Education Foundation for the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Additionally, he served as the Deputy Head of the School of Surgery with Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). He achieved a Master of Science in Medical Education from Cardiff University in 2014 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (Clinical Leadership) from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UK, in 2020.
In the immediate aftermath of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, he led an emergency mission and later returned for an aid and education mission to support local doctors and empower them to implement change and drive healthcare and medical education forward.
Prior to joining Healthpoint, Dr. Mustafa worked as a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, NHS Wales. During that time, Dr. Mustafa served as the Clinical Director of Head & Neck Services and Associate Medical Director for Education at CTM University Health Board
Dr. Mustafa’s scope of practice addresses a wide range of conditions affecting the mouth, face and jaws, including acquired and congenital diseases, facial pain, orthognathic surgery, cutaneous surgery, facial reconstructions, oral and dental surgery, maxillofacial treatments for sleep apnea and digital planning technologies.
Dr. Mustafa excels in aesthetic and reconstructive solutions, managing congenital and acquired deformities, craniomaxillofacial trauma, odontogenic sepsis, cervicofacial infections, dental extractions, dental and facial implants, disorders of the oral cavity, salivary glands, and oral cancers, skin cancers, benign skin conditions, vascular anomalies, and orthognathic jaw surgery. He provides patient-specific solutions and customized treatment plans.
