Dr. Sumit Jha has over 21 years of specialist experience in Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
Dr. Jha earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with honors from the University of Mumbai, India, in 2001. Following this, he completed a three-year residency program at LTMG Hospital, Mumbai, India, obtaining a Medical Degree in Anesthesiology. He then pursued further training in the UK Anaesthetics and Intensive Care program through the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency and Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) from 2008 to 2013. During this time, he gained experience across various hospitals including Ulster Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast City Hospital, Antrim Area Hospital, Glangwili General Hospital, ABM NHS Trust, and Cardiff and Vale UHB in Wales. Upon successful completion of his training, Dr. Jha was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anesthetics. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA), United Kingdom, since 2009.
Dr. Jha served as a specialist advisor to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) from May 2019 to August 2021. During this time, he was responsible for providing expert guidance and input into the CQC's regulatory inspection and investigation activities concerning core services in hospitals (both NHS and private). His role ensured that the CQC's assessments were informed by current and credible clinical and professional knowledge. Additionally, from November 2017 to January 2024, Dr. Jha acted as an examiner for the General Medical Council (GMC), evaluating overseas medical graduates during their first registration as part of the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) examination.
Prior to joining Healthpoint, Dr. Jha worked at Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, United Kingdom, where he served as Clinical Director and worked as a Consultant Anesthesiologist.
Dr. Jha’s scope of practice covers perioperative medicine, including pre-operative care, intra-operative management of high-risk patients, and postoperative care. He covers a full range of specialties within a UK district general hospital setting, including pediatrics. He covers both elective and emergency on-call cover which can include emergency care of sick babies, including neonates, often necessitating transfer to a regional center after adequate stabilization. His present work schedule includes theatre lists (special needs children with varying degrees of autism for dental treatment under General Anesthesia (GA), general surgery, gynecology, and intensive care).
