Prof. Dr. Sammy Hanna is a consultant orthopedic hip and knee surgeon from the UK with more than 18 years of experience working in both the UK and Canada. He had a busy clinical and academic practice in London prior to joining Healthpoint in January 2022. His public practice was based at the internationally renowned Royal London Hospital – the largest level 1 major trauma center in the UK and part of Barts Health NHS Trust – where he treated severely injured patients in a tertiary environment. His private practice was based at the London Clinic in Harley Street and the Cromwell Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Hanna completed his residency training at the renowned Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London, which was followed by advanced fellowship training in hip and knee surgery at the Rorabeck-Bourne Joint Replacement Institute at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery in the UK, and a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the American College of Surgeons.
His clinical interests include all aspects of hip and knee surgery, including primary, complex primary and revision arthroplasty for a wide spectrum of pathology, arthroscopic surgery for sports and soft tissue-related injuries, and the surgical management of complex lower limb fractures. He has a special interest in partial knee replacements, minimally invasive surgical techniques and robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements.
He also has extensive experience in managing football related hip and knee injuries. He is a certified surgeon by FIFA having successfully attained their Diploma in Football Medicine.
Prof. Dr. Hanna is also a senior clinical lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, where he is heavily involved in research, teaching, and education. His main research interests include the assessment of outcomes following hip and knee surgery, and evaluating the behavior of different bearing surfaces and materials used in total hip and knee replacements. He has presented, lectured and published widely on key aspects of hip and knee surgery, and continues to conduct research looking at implant design, performance, wear patterns and outcomes of total hip and knee arthroplasty.
